Devastating email-borne viruses can circle the globe in a matter of hours, causing irreparable damage and loss to an organization's communications infrastructure. If your enterprise is infected, you not only incur costly downtime, but your employees can unwittingly spread a damaging virus to customers, partners, and prospects. The costs in terms of lost productivity, lost data, and lost customer confidence can be enorrmous.
Features
MailGate and Email Firewall provide a zero-hour, high-performance, scalable antivirus solution that protects your enterprise email traffic at the Internet gateway. By inspecting every incoming and outgoing email message, these solutions can detect and disinfect potentially damaging messages and attachments before they enter or leave your network.
Multiple Virus Engines
Tumbleweed’s Email Security products offer the choice of Kaspersky or McAfee virus engines, fully integrated with the administrative GUI and policy engines. Email Security products provide automatic updates for the latest AV signatures with no interruption in virus protection.
Zero-Hour Protection
Tumbleweed’s Virus Outbreak Protection (VOP) capability provides true zero-hour protection. By contrast with other approaches, VOP does not rely on manual intervention or a team of analysts scrambling to update a pattern database which can often take hours to update. Using a global series of detectors spread around the internet which see in excess of 400 million messages per day, VOP can detect an emerging outbreak in the first few minutes of its spread across the internet. Tumbleweed’s appliances check each email received against a local cache of known patterns, and any emails which have not been seen before are checked against the central pattern database using a very efficient lightweight protocol. In the first few minutes of a new outbreak, the global probe network will see enough copies of the new virus to be able to tag it as suspicious. The central database will automatically be updated with the pattern of the outbreak, and any queries on similar matching patterns will be tagged as being a suspect virus. The Tumbleweed appliances will hold any suspect viruses for a configurable time period while McAfee or Kaspersky update their virus patterns. After this period, the email will be released to the virus engine for scanning and cleaning (if possible) before being dropped, quarantined or delivered depending on the policy configuration. If administrators are sure that the suspect virus is not a threat, emails can be released at any time.
Attachment Scanning
Tumbleweed’s Email Security products can scan over 300 types of email attachments for content or viruses. Tumbleweed’s solution also inspects binary files as well as slack space between character. Granular antivirus policies can be enforced around users, recipients and attachment types (eg: stopping .mp3 files), Tumbleweed also provides true-type recognition of file types, regardless of whether file extensions have been changed.
