Tumbleweed Announces Availability of AS2 Engine for SecureTransport

AS2 Engine Expands Customer Connectivity and Simplifies Management of File Transfers

Redwood City, CA – June 21, 2004 – Tumbleweed® Communications Corp. (NASDAQ:TMWD), a leading provider of secure Internet messaging software and appliances for enterprises and government agencies, today announced the availability of its SecureTransport AS2 Engine for secure data exchange over the Internet with customers and partners. This new capability extends SecureTransport’s support for multiple file and data exchange protocols, giving enterprises a single platform for both EDI and non-EDI file transfers, thereby reducing operational cost and complexity.

The new AS2 Engine expands SecureTransport’s ability to work with multiple file transfer clients and protocols by adding support for the increasingly popular EDIINT AS2 standard, providing secure and reliable data exchange with any AS2-certified solution. This allows companies to migrate partners and customers from expensive EDI VANs and async/bisync dial-up connections, to a low cost Internet-based enhanced file transfer solution with comprehensive security, management and reporting. To facilitate tighter integration of AS2 transfers with back-end applications, SecureTransport’s event-driven agent framework provides a powerful capability for rules-based pre- and post-processing all file transfers. The AS2 Engine is interoperable with the reference AS2 products in the Drummond Group's eBusinessReady™ program, with full certification expected by October 2004.

AS2 is a broadly accepted communication protocol used to transport EDI transactions and other electronic documents over the Internet. It supports a secure and reliable exchange of data with trading partners over the Internet with confidentiality, authenticity and non-repudiation, while generating significant cost savings by replacing costly VANs and private networks. AS2 also provides plug-and-play connectivity with the supply chain systems of leading retailers, consumer packaged goods vendors, and automotive companies, as well as Internet on-ramps of many EDI VANs.

“The AS2 Engine for SecureTransport expands connectivity choices, making it easier to match communication channels with partners and customers, based on their technical skill level and business needs” said Dave Jevans, Chief Marketing Officer for Tumbleweed Communications. “By consolidating multiple file transfer capabilities on a single integrated platform, SecureTransport lowers operational costs and simplifies the management of file transfers.”
