Tumbleweed Press Releases

Tumbleweed Communication's Ken Beer to Address the Air Force Information Technology Conference 2003

Tumbleweed's Director of Product Management to Advise the Air Force on Securing Email Communications

Redwood City, CA - August 21, 2003 - Tumbleweed® Communications Corp. (NASDAQ:TMWD), a leading provider of mission-critical Internet communications software for enterprises, financial services organizations and government, announced today that Ken Beer, Director of Product Management, will be a featured speaker at the Air Force Information Technology Conference 2003. The event is scheduled to take place August 24-28, 2003 in Montgomery, Ala. at the Montgomery Civic Center.

Beer's presentation, entitled "Server-based Encryption Facilitates Confidential Document Exchange," will detail solutions that The Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER) within the FDA implemented to enable secure email communications between itself and the various companies it regulated in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. The CDER was looking for a more cost-sensitive, practical approach that reflected the growing use of the Internet for communications, but incorporated the security they needed for their own networks and for the sensitive information they exchanged with their regulated companies. Beer will discuss how they solved their problem with email firewall and secure messaging products to reduce their costs for the center and for pharmaceutical companies by replacing certain paper-based processes and expensive proprietary networks, eliminating end-user training within the Agency and pharmaceutical companies, and protecting internal infrastructure against viruses, spam and denial of service attacks.
