Tumbleweed Expands Customer Advisory Board

Program Fosters Closer Communication with Executives at Industry-Leading Companies

REDWOOD CITY, CA - September 20, 2002 - Tumbleweed® Communications Corp.(Nasdaq:TMWD - News), leading provider of secure messaging applications for businesses using the Internet, today announced the expansion of its Customer Advisory Board. The board meets twice a year and was formed to open a dialogue on key secure communications issues with key executives at some of the world's leading companies. The most recent meeting took place September 17-18, 2002 at the Ritz Carlton in Half Moon Bay, California.

Tumbleweed customers selected to join the Customer Advisory Board serve a one-year term. New members include representatives from the following companies: American Century Investment Services, Inc., Amgen Inc., Bank of America Securities, Mutual of Omaha Insurance Company, National City Corporation, Oppenheimer Funds, Inc., The Regence Group (Blue Cross/Blue Shield), and TD Waterhouse Investor Services, Inc.

In this week's meetings, Tumbleweed executives presented results from the latest Customer Satisfaction survey, conducted semi-annually, and progress on the resulting action plans. Customer Advisory Board members also participated in sessions addressing Tumbleweed's long-term roadmap and strategic direction.
