Hallmark.com Licenses Tumbleweed Patents for Online Greeting Card Delivery

REDWOOD CITY, CA - January 2, 2002 - Hallmark Cards, Incorporated and Tumbleweed® Communications Corp. (Nasdaq:TMWD), a leading provider of secure content management solutions for enabling the business Internet, today announced a new licensing agreement. The agreement will enable Hallmark.com, a subsidiary of Hallmark Cards, Incorporated, to license Tumbleweed's patented personalized URL (PURL) technology for delivery of greeting cards over the Internet.

The licensing agreement covers Hallmark.com offerings that provide for or facilitate document delivery over the Internet, and that include the provision for sending an email delivery notification to the recipient. "Hallmark e-cards are a very popular way to stay in touch this holiday season. Hallmark.com gives our consumers a personal and secure e-card sending experience," said John Sullivan, president of Hallmark.com.
