Tumbleweed Communications Names New Chief Financial Officer

Elizabeth Jordan joins executive management team bringing over fifteen years of finance and technology experience to Tumbleweed

REDWOOD CITY, CA - July 9, 2001 - Tumbleweed Communications Corp.® (NASDAQ: TMWD), a leading provider of mission critical messaging software, today announced the appointment of Elizabeth Davis Jordan as Senior Vice President, Finance & Chief Financial Officer. Jordan replaces Jim Heisch, Acting CFO of Tumbleweed since early May and senior financial advisor to the company since early 2000.

Jordan brings to Tumbleweed a distinguished track record at high-tech public companies - having served in a number of top finance and accounting roles in Silicon Valley over the last ten years at Catapulse, Inc., Sanmina Corporation, and Network General Corporation. Most recently, Jordan was Senior Vice President and CFO of Catapulse, Inc., which was sold to Rational Software Corporation in February of 2001. At Catapulse, she was responsible for all finance activities and infrastructure, as well as business plan development.

"I am pleased that Betsy is joining Tumbleweed - her expertise is a great addition to our existing management team," said Jeff Smith, Chairman and CEO of Tumbleweed Communications Corp. "Betsy has extensive experience with public companies and she is highly respected in the technology industry. She has the right skills to manage and scale our finance, accounting, investor relations and human resource efforts as we continue to grow our customer and revenue base."

Previously, Jordan served as Executive Vice President and CFO of Sanmina Corporation, an industry leader in electronic contracts manufacturing for the communications, medical, industrial instrumentation and high-end computer sectors. Jordan spent three years at Sanmina where she led the company's finance, treasury, tax and accounting functions. Prior to Sanmina, Jordan filled a range of senior finance and accounting roles with Network General Corporation, which merged with McAfee Associates in 1997 to become Network Associates. Her background also includes work as a senior audit accountant with Ernst & Young. Jordan received her BA in business systems from the University of Texas and received her MBA in finance from the University of North Texas.

"I am delighted to join a company of Tumbleweed's caliber," said Betsy Jordan, Senior Vice President, Finance & Chief Financial Officer of Tumbleweed Communications Corp. "The enterprise software solutions that Tumbleweed delivers are mission-critical to companies that want to manage and secure their online communications with customers, business partners and suppliers. I'm looking forward to working with the entire Tumbleweed team."

"I'd like to thank Jim Heisch for his significant contributions over the past months," added Smith. "We're particularly grateful that he has agreed to help facilitate the CFO transition with Betsy through the end of July. He will also continue to serve as a strategic financial advisor to Tumbleweed in the future."
