SEB Selects Tumbleweed
Tumbleweed IME to Serve as the Secure Communications Channel
HURST, UK - August 2, 2000 - Tumbleweed® Communications Corp. (Nasdaq:TMWD), a leading provider of advanced email solutions for business communications, today announced that Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken (SEB), a European provider of Internet banking services, will use Tumbleweed Integrated Messaging Exchange (IME) as the secure communications channel for customers of its new personal financial online services. SEB will launch its services in the UK in the fourth quarter of this year.
Tumbleweed IME is a platform and set of applications for creating secure email channels between a business and its customers, partners and suppliers. SEB will use Tumbleweed IME as the delivery channel for a variety of customer communications such as welcome and registration messages, contract notes, current account statements and external stock transfer instructions.
"Security, on which the trust and loyalty of our customers will depend, is a critical element in the online personal financial services platform we are developing. We selected Tumbleweed IME because it was able to demonstrate to us a very secure and highly personalised email communications channel," said David Goodman, Head of UK Internet Banking at SEB. "We expect this ability to send documents securely over the web will save us and our customers time and money."
"As more people become confident in Internet security and begin to bank and trade online, financial organisations can leverage this trend to build relationships through clear and consistent online communications that keep customers informed and happy," said Jeffrey C. Smith, president and CEO, Tumbleweed Communications. "SEB has taken an industry lead in this effort, and we are pleased that Tumbleweed IME has been chosen for the safe and efficient delivery of this information."
In the future, SEB plans to expand its application beyond the UK.
