Support Engineer (SpE09)

The Role:

This is a highly visible position that serves as a primary Global Support interface between Tumbleweed and the Tumbleweed customer base. It is a key role in defining the customer's impression of Tumbleweed Communications. This position will require impeccable customer service, troubleshooting skills and a strong technical background as the position is responsible for solving technical problems for Tumbleweed customers. It will be required to provide Tumbleweed customers and partners with high quality, courteous, and accurate technical information in a timely and efficient manner. Support Engineer will be performing departmental and support related tasks such as communicating with customers, meeting Initial Response on SLAs and solving the customer's problems. Support Engineer will be available for 24x7 shift rotation or on emergency unscheduled off-hours.

You should meet the following requirements:

  • English Language – Excellent English verbal skills. Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar;
  • Must enjoy being on the phone;
  • Excellent customer service skills, both verbal and written;
  • Experience with networking and LAN technology;
  • Windows NT/Win2K knowledge, MCP, MCSE preferable;
  • Linux (UNIX) knowledge;
  • Knowledge of S/MIME, LDAP DHCP, firewalls;
  • Familiar with SMTP/FTP/HTTP/SSH;
  • Excellent teamwork skills, must be assertive and approachable;
  • Ability to absorb and articulate new technology in a way that customers can understand;

The following additional skills will be an advantage:

  • International exposure is a plus;
  • Self-directed - Ability to work independently with little direct supervision is essential;
  • Knowledge of e-mail systems such as, Exchange, Lotus Notes and Internet (SMTP);
  • Knowledge of SSL certificates;
  • Certification such as MCP, MCSE, CCNA, RHCE;
